The specific objectives and purpose of this organization shall be:

 

· To honor the memory of Franciscan Priest Antonio Camiñas (d. 1985), to inform and educate the public of his life work assisting migrant children traveling alone to the United States, and following his example and in his memory, to assist the Catholic Church in carrying out humanitarian projects to benefit children in need.

To create physical and virtual venues where the history and the lessons learned by the Cuban exile community about religious faith, family, resiliency, hard work, and the triumph of the human spirit can be shared with all Americans to help inspire and empower them.

 Our directors, who were eyewitnesses and beneficiaries of the works of Father Camiñas, must seek to follow his example and maintain the highest standards and principles of the Catholic faith and human values as they organize and create charitable works and transmit that faith and those values to all those who become part of those efforts.

 Misión

Los objetivos específicos y el propósito de esta organización será:
Honrar la memoria del Sacerdote Franciscano Antonio Camiñas (m. 1985), informar y educar al público sobre el trabajo de su vida ayudando a niños migrantes que viajaron solos con rumbo a los Estados Unidos. Siguiendo su ejemplo y en su memoria, ayudar a la Iglesia Católica en la realización de proyectos humanitarios en beneficio de los niños necesitados.
 Crear lugares físicos y virtuales donde la historia y las lecciones aprendidas por la comunidad de exiliados cubanos sobre la fé religiosa, la familia, la resiliencia, el trabajo duro y el triunfo del espíritu humano puedan compartirse con los estadounidenses para ayudar a inspirarlos y empoderarlos.
Nuestros directores, que fueron testigos presenciales y beneficiarios de las obras del Padre Camiñas, deben buscar seguir su ejemplo y mantener los más altos estándares y principios de la fé católica y los valores humanos al organizar y crear obras de caridad y transmitir esa fé y esos valores a todos aquellos que se vuelvan parte de esos esfuerzos.

 Who we are:

Starting in 1966 as the Castro regime tightened its grip on the Cuban people, thousands of Cuban parents made the heartbreaking decision to send their children out of Cuba any way they could to give them a chance to live free. Thousands of such children were sent unaccompanied to Spain as a way station to eventually join extended family members already in the United States.  A hero appeared on the scene, Franciscan Father Antonio Camiñas who battled incessantly to fund, house, feed and clothe those children in Spain until they were able to continue their flight to the United States. He arranged tp house the children in various camps and thus unwittingly created “The Children of Father Camiñas” all those of us who were there and made life long friendships. Fifty years later it is now time for us to honor his memory and pay it forward. 

Quienes Somos:

A partir de 1966, cuando el régimen de Castro fortaleció su control sobre el pueblo cubano, miles de padres cubanos tomaron la desgarradora decisión de enviar a sus hijos fuera de Cuba de cualquier forma posible para darles la oportunidad de vivir libres. Miles de esos niños fueron enviados solos a España como estación de paso para eventualmente reunirse con familiares que ya vivían en Estados Unidos. Apareció en la escena un héroe, el padre franciscano Antonio Camiñas, que luchó incesantemente para financiar, alojar, alimentar y vestir a esos niños en España hasta que continuaran su viaje a Estados Unidos. Alojó a los niños en varios campamentos y así, sin querer, creó a “Los Niños del Padre Camiñas” con todos los que estuvimos allí y pudimos hacer amistades para toda la vida. Cincuenta años después, es hora de que honremos su memoria y retribuyamos los bienes recibidos.
